David Young of Thomas & Adamson was introduced to us in 2000, at the commencement of an extensive refurbishment programme at our Crewe Toll Site.
For approximately five years, David was pivotal in the delivery of project management and cost consultancy services and was key in the cost planning, procurement and delivery of the works.
He provided a turn-key service and managed all of our other Consultants and Contractors, ensuring that we were kept abreast of all issues, whether relating to design, programme or cost. His ‘hands on’ approach meant that throughout this fast track project he was always aware of what was happening on site, which ensured that we were getting ‘best practice’ solutions at optimum cost.
The works were not fully defined at the outset and, therefore, it was a changing brief which required up front costing, on site management and clear communication with our business in order to ensure minimal disruption during the various works. This involved ongoing dialogue with ourselves and, during this time, we built up a total trust and respect for what was being delivered by David and his team.
Throughout the works we needed to ensure that the risk to business operations was at all times fully understood and managed. With David’s project management skills and his knowledge of the site, we were able to mitigate any potential problems by reprogramming, design evaluation or phasing of the works. At all times, we were part of the process which ensured it was communicated to our business, resulting in a ‘buy-in’ with all parties.
As a result of the approach David took in delivering the works, he was employed by ourselves on various project works at our Capability Green, Luton; Aberporth, Wales and Lincoln facilities for other Operations Directors and because of his extensive knowledge and understanding of our business, David has continued to work for SELEX Galileo.
