Project: Chesser, Edinburgh (former fruitmarket development)

Client: Ediston Homes

Budget: £11m

Services: Quantity surveying, employer’s agent, quality monitor

Project Summary: The project is located at the old fruitmarket in the Chesser area of Edinburgh. The Ediston Homes accommodation is part of a new mixed-use development of residential accommodation for sale and rent and a new retail park, along with supporting infrastructure. The Ediston Homes development was split into two contracts – one an apartment scheme of 80, one and two bedroom flats contained in seven, four storey blocks, all built to mid-market rent specification. The other being 34 private for sale homes in terraces of 2 and 3 bed terraced homes and 4 bedroom semi-detached dwellings.

The affordable housing element of the project was funded through the NHT model with Ediston Homes entering an agreement for Places for People to take the properties on at practical completion as part of their portfolio.

The procurement adopted was to negotiate one to one with a main contractor. T&A were instrumental in ensuring that each of the contracts entered into were within the strict budget constraints of the development and that the employer’s requirements and contractors proposals complied with Ediston Homes and PFP’s requirements. T&A then administered each of the projects as employer’s agent and quantity surveyor, as well as undertaking the role of quality monitor to ensure practical completion was achieved successfully.
