T&A were delighted to sponsor The Spartans Football Academy’s mini-Olympics Day where over 200 school children form local primary schools in North Edinburgh gathered at Ainslie Park yesterday, home of Spartans Community Football Academy, to take part in a 14 sport mini Olympics.
David Young, Patner at Thomas & Adamson commented
“Supporting the Spartans Community Football Academy in their work is a rewarding and important part of our community engagement strategy in Edinburgh. We’ve seen firsthand the excellent work they do helping to develop children from challenging social backgrounds into confident, capable, healthy young adults. ”
The pupils aged 10-12 took part in rugby, cycling, athletics, football, and relay races as part of a programme to help introduce young people to sport as well as the psychological and physiological benefits it brings.
Former British Triathlete and Duathlete champion, Catriona Morrison, now Business Development Manager at The Academy, was behind the organisation of the event. “Today has been about having fun, developing new skills and allowing the children to grow in confidence, be part of a team, and meet new friends. At The Academy we support about 3000 young people a year from the local community through a range of youth services and you could hear and see today from the laughter and cheers of those taking part just what an important part sport and activity has as part of that provision.” said Catriona.
“It’s been great, I really enjoyed and I got a medal at the end too which is fantastic. I’ll definitely come back to Spartans over the summer as there is so much to do and it makes me feel really happy.” Claire, p7, Pirniehall Primary School.
