Thomas & Adamson has completed work on a three-year project at the heart of the city’s historic Lanes quarter.

The international construction and property consultancy led the delivery of this unique development, providing project management and quantity surveying services on behalf of their Client, Redevco.

Following a lengthy and complex planning process, including demolition of the listed Timpson’s building and preservation of Puget’s Cottage, one of the oldest houses in the city which pre-dates Brighton’s development as a seaside resort, the new ‘Hanningtons Lane’ recently opened to the public.

The mixed-use regeneration scheme, creating a new and vibrant shopping and dining quarter, blends the character and history of the Lanes with the needs of modern retailers and features 15 new boutique shops and a glamorous new dining experience from the renowned Brighton Gingerman Restaurant Group, alongside residential and office accommodation. Shopfronts have been individually designed, with the elevation and colour of each providing a completely immersive visual environment.

Natasha Kravchuk, Director at Thomas & Adamson commented: “Hanningtons Lane was one of the most challenging but rewarding projects to work on as the Lanes are a much-loved part of Brighton and we wanted to be sympathetic to the architectural heritage as well as injecting a modern feel into the development. It’s been a privilege to work on this ‘one of a kind’ project along with Redevco, Westridge and Morgan Carn and to help deliver such an ambitious vision and further add to Brighton’s rich cultural heritage. The response from local people and businesses to the new Lane, and the improvements made to stores on North Street, has been incredible”

The latest tenant signing, Hotel Chocolat will soon open their doors at 19 North Street and join other high-profile retailers including, Habitat, Watches of Switzerland, Oliver Bonas and the local ice cream company, Brass Monkey.

The Lanes is one of Brighton’s most iconic and popular tourist destinations, attracting 8 million annual visitors.
